node.js breaks JavaScript stigmas

Who would think that after so much momentum in JavaScript over the last five years, with what could be safely called its rediscovery, that language still had one more trick up its sleeve? After adding life to the client side of web applications, JavaScript now marches on, full steam, to the server.

Meet node.js, a new application development platform that is teaching us a new way of writing server code. Not only it uses an uncommon server side language (JavaScript) but it also proposes a mind shift in the way the code is written and executed, achieving a lot of scalability through asynchrony, while staying fluid and readable.

Brian Mavity has been working on web applications with C# and .net since 2004. For the past 3 years he has been working on web applications that are very heavily JavaScript oriented and is now working toward finding the best ways to write maintainable JavaScript code.

Through this time, he developed a love of the JavaScript language and is very excited by the possibilities that server-side JavaScript environments can provide
